Sarasota mayor seeks resolution on immigration

Posted: February 7th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Sarasota Immigrants | No Comments »

Yesterday, the Sarasota Herald Tribune published an article about the mayor of Sarasota’s effort to have the city issue a resolution against any effort to enact an Arizona-style immigration law in Florida.  A link to the article is below.

Jaensch Immigration Law Firm supports this resolution and believes that it will be a sign of respect to all the immigrants who are vital to the Sarasota economy, including foreign investors, entrepreneurs, skilled, unskilled and professional workers, athletes and students.

If you support the resolution too, please do the following:

1.       Prepare a new email addressed to all of the Sarasota City Commissioners (you can copy and paste these email addresses: Kelly.Kirschner@sarasotagov.com; Fredd.Atkins@sarasotagov.com; Richard.Clapp@sarasotagov.com; Suzanne.Atwell@sarasotagov.com; Terry.Turner@sarasotagov.com)

2.       In the subject line, write: I SUPPORT THE MAYOR’S IMMIGRATION RESOLUTION

3.       In the body of the email, write something about yourself (e.g. I am an immigrant in Sarasota, I am a first generation American in Sarasota, I am a Sarasota businessperson or professional, I am a student in Sarasota, etc.)

The mayor reported to me personally that he has received more emails “on the other side of the spectrum of hate and outrage” and it is important to register your opinion TODAY.  The city commission may vote on the resolution TONIGHT.
